What is the SAP S/4HANA Cloud?
SAP S/4HANA Cloud is a comprehensive cloud ERP system from SAP that is available in two versions: the Private Edition and the Public Edition. The two operating models of the SAP S/4HANA Cloud
SAP Public Cloud
In this model, SAP provides the software as part of "Software as a Service" (SaaS), similar to Microsoft Teams. This is the unified cloud version of SAP S/4HANA. Multiple companies share a common cloud instance, which increases scalability and cost efficiency. This option is suitable for companies that need faster implementation and less individual customization.
SAP Private Cloud
In this model, customers can either make changes themselves or have them made by a consulting house. This solution allows companies to run a private, dedicated cloud instance. Each company has its own instance, which provides more control and customization options. This is particularly suitable for companies with specific requirements that need greater customization.
SAP intends to offer both models as part of a software rental approach ("as a service"). Customers can cover hosting, licenses, maintenance and SAP Basis with one contract and not worry about anything else. This is an all-inclusive offer.
If you as a customer do not like the software rental, you are free to continue purchasing software licenses ("as a product"). In this model, you have to take care of hosting and the SAP base yourself. In addition, SAP will charge for annual maintenance here.
SAP S/4HANA Cloud optimizes business processes through intelligent automation and integrated technologies such as AI, machine learning and business analytics. It provides transparency, agility, accuracy and efficiency. The solution covers all core processes that exist in an organization, including finance, procurement, manufacturing, sales, supply chain management, and project management. SAP updates the core processes at regular intervals, which means that customers always receive updates and enhancements to keep pace with current market requirements.
What about customers who don't "want" cloud?
Don't worry, the SAP S/4HANA on-premise system will still be available to you. The on-premise version of SAP S/4HANA will be supported by SAP until 2040. Every two years, you will also receive updates for the on-premise system. However, you (or your service provider) must update the system yourself.
In addition, the S/4HANA on-premise variant can also be operated in the cloud or with a hosting service provider. These different operating models offer companies the flexibility that best suits their individual requirements, resources and preferences. The table below lists your options:

"GROW with SAP" is a commercial bundle from SAP designed specifically for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This offering enables SMEs to implement a cloud-based ERP system in a short time. The bundle includes not only the ERP software itself, but also accompanying services and resources to support the cloud implementation. The focus is on the 70 or so most important business processes. New customers can thus switch completely to the S/4HANA ERP system within just 3-6 months. A later extension of the processes is of course possible. The strengths of "GROW" lie in its predictable, cost-effective and rapid implementation as well as the possibility of future scaling.
