Dynamic pick-by-light with container management for production
The technology of dynamic pick-by-light in conjunction with container management using smart tags is already familiar in the retail sector through the use of electronic shelf labels (ESL). These labels are successfully used to dynamically adjust prices in supermarkets. So far, however, their use in intralogistics has been limited, although there is amazing potential here.
The Electronic Shelf Labels can be used wired or wirelessly with an integrated radio module and battery to digitally label supermarket shelves or storage locations. These displays are also suitable for use in logistics and production.
The smart tags enable centralized control and updating of containers via the SAP system without having to reprint classic labels. The barcodes are digitally adapted on the e-ink display, enabling flexible and real-time data communication between the SAP system and the electronic labels.
The latest generation of Electronic Shelf Labels is equipped with multi-colored LEDs. In production, these labels enable the targeted provision of containers from the production supply area to the workstation. A signal when the order is loaded activates all the containers loaded for this order. The LEDs flash and the employee can efficiently select the materials for the operation and provide them at the workstation. Different color codes prevent misallocation in the event of several production orders running in parallel.
